Community Service

The concept originated through donating our Brasil Comes to You dinners to support our local charitable organizations in their fundraising. This activity has helped support  service organizations, churches, food banks, and organizations, since 2009. We also had a program directed to school children providing recipes to promote the joys of food preparation and to inspire eating healthy and fresh food.

Since the pandemic COVID-19 started, we have been providing meals to local shelters. We participated in fundraising to support a Brazilian organization that brings food, culture and dignity to people who are living in vulnerable situations. Our goal is to continue supporting our community here, and in Brazil to reduce hunger and promote a better quality of life.

We are present in Kitsap County with our project: Eat Fresh, Eat Healthy and our goal is to bring to students and parents fresh recipes, where they can cook together, and most importantly, learn the importance of eating less processed food and plan the week ahead to avoid waste food.

Our partnership with Gastromotiva Brazil, initiated in 2020, focuses on leveraging food for social change. This collaboration has raised significant funds, impacting numerous lives in Brazil through meal delivery and educational programs for low-income individuals. Our efforts extend beyond the U.S., reinforcing community bonds in Brazil.

In 2021, we expanded our outreach by joining the Social Gastronomy Movement (SGM), a global network committed to transforming local communities through food. During World Food Day in October, we engaged in the Universal Plate Action, providing sixty meals to a local shelter. The following year, 2022, saw us joining forces with Fishline Food Bank, Central Kitsap Food Bank, a local supermarket, and other organizations, culminating in the delivery of 1,300 meals to various shelters and to homeless individuals in Seattle.

2023 continued our partnership with SGM, marking a significant milestone. During the week of World Food Day, from October 12th to 19th, we distributed 1,055 meals, including 245 that I personally prepared for two shelters. Additionally, we collaborated with a local restaurant, who generously donated 20 dinners to Georgia’s House, a shelter for women and children in Bremerton, WA.

Parallel to these efforts, Brasil Comes to You actively contributes a portion of its auction item sales back to the community. In 2023, we proudly donated four dinners to the Olympic College Foundation, aiding scholarships, student food pantries, Fishline Food Bank, Poulsbo Rotary Club, and the youth program at Silverdale Lutheran Church. We also played a key role in organizing Easter Sunday and Mother’s Day events for a women and children’s shelter in Bremerton, WA.

A highlight of 2023 was my participation in a roundtable at JP Morgan Headquarters in NYC, hosted by David Hertz, the founder of Gastromotiva, during Global Pact Week. This was a momentous occasion where I shared the evolution of my journey, from initiating a dinner fundraiser in Kitsap County, WA, to motivating friends to support communities both in the U.S. and Brazil.

Looking ahead to 2024, our commitment to creating positive change through food remains steadfast. We are eager to broaden our impact and encourage more individuals and businesses to join our mission of transforming communities and combating hunger.
