Food as Connection, Not Just Cuisine

Sandra’s work is rooted in the idea that meals are meant to be shared — slowly, intentionally, and with curiosity. Her approach to cooking blends heritage and storytelling, inviting people to experience Brazilian culture in a way that feels personal and welcoming.Rather than focusing solely on technique or presentation, she emphasizes connection: who prepared the food, where it comes from, and why it matters. That philosophy carries through everything she does, from private chef experiences to teaching and community work.

A Life Shaped by Resilience and Purpose

Sandra’s early life in Brazil instilled values that continue to guide her today — resourcefulness, generosity, and a deep respect for fresh food and shared labor. Those experiences shaped her belief that food should be accessible, meaningful, and rooted in care for others. As her path unfolded — through immigration, work, education, and entrepreneurship — food remained the common thread. Cooking became both a creative outlet and a way to serve.Today, that same foundation informs how she shows up for her clients and her community.

Brasil Comes to You: Experience at the Table

Instead, it’s an experience designed to feel like dining in a Brazilian home — where conversation matters, time slows down, and everyone is welcome at the table.Sandra prepares meals on site, sharing cultural context and personal insight along the way. The result is not just a dinner, but a shared moment that lingers long after the plates are cleared.

Food as a Tool for Social Impact

January with Brasil Comes to You

We began our year with a magnificent hike in Olympic National Park, specifically at Lake Crescent—a place we visit annually to reaffirm our commitment to staying as close to nature as possible throughout the year. Throughout the year, I’ll share our favorite spots in Washington State, the place we call home and where we work.

In January, we shared some interesting facts about São Paulo with our social media followers. Dinner in São Paulo is typically between 8 and 9 PM, necessitating a snack around 4 to 5 PM. Often, this means enjoying a small coffee accompanied by grilled bread, as depicted in the accompanying picture.

Additionally, January offered us the fantastic opportunity to return to King5 Channel on The New Day Show NW. We discussed the influence of Portuguese culture on our cuisine and culture, highlighted by introducing the famous Portuguese soup, “Caldo Verde.” It’s always an honor to showcase Brazilian culture on television. Thank you, New Day!

Partership with a Global Movement

Gastromotiva Brazil

Our partnership with Gastromotiva Brazil, initiated in 2020, focuses on leveraging food for social change. This collaboration has raised significant funds, impacting numerous lives in Brazil through meal delivery and educational programs for low-income individuals. Our efforts extend beyond the U.S., reinforcing community bonds in Brazil.

In 2021, we expanded our outreach by joining the Social Gastronomy Movement (SGM), a global network committed to transforming local communities through food. During World Food Day in October, we engaged in the Universal Plate Action, providing sixty meals to a local shelter. The following year, 2022, saw us joining forces with Fishline Food Bank, Central Kitsap Food Bank, a local supermarket, and other organizations, culminating in the delivery of 1,300 meals to various shelters and to homeless individuals in Seattle.

2023 continued our partnership with SGM, marking a significant milestone. During the week of World Food Day, from October 12th to 19th, we distributed 1,055 meals, including 245 that I personally prepared for two shelters. Additionally, we collaborated with a local restaurant, who generously donated 20 dinners to Georgia’s House, a shelter for women and children in Bremerton, WA.

Parallel to these efforts, Brasil Comes to You actively contributes a portion of its auction item sales back to the community. In 2023, we proudly donated four dinners to the Olympic College Foundation, aiding scholarships, student food pantries, Fishline Food Bank, Poulsbo Rotary Club, and the youth program at Silverdale Lutheran Church. We also played a key role in organizing Easter Sunday and Mother’s Day events for a women and children’s shelter in Bremerton, WA.

A highlight of 2023 was my participation in a roundtable at JP Morgan Headquarters in NYC, hosted by David Hertz, the founder of Gastromotiva, during Global Pact Week. This was a momentous occasion where I shared the evolution of my journey, from initiating a dinner fundraiser in Kitsap County, WA, to motivating friends to support communities both in the U.S. and Brazil.

Looking ahead to 2024, our commitment to creating positive change through food remains steadfast. We are eager to broaden our impact and encourage more individuals and businesses to join our mission of transforming communities and combating hunger.
